We empower boys from father absent families for success on and off the field and in the community. Our vision is to build generations of strong men, restored families, and vibrant communities.
At Level the Playing Field Leadership Academy our work is preventative in nature. Boys enter our program between the ages of 10-12 to receive mentorship, academic support, recreation, cultural enrichment, character development, emotional support, and community engagement. We support them through the age of 21. We believe providing these experiences to young males from father absent homes will guide them to success in life as positive male role models.
Having grown up in a single parent home, Lonnie’s successes in life can be attributed to his mother’s sacrifices that in turn afforded him opportunities not readily available to most young African American males. After attending an all-male private school in New Orleans, Lonnie graduated from Tulane University and went on to play 11 years in the NFL. After retiring, he founded an athletic training organization to enhance athletes’ speed and football skills. Lonnie spent 10 years as a high school head football coach and 6 of those years he doubled as an Athletic director. As a father of five children, and Coach at heart, Lonnie’s passion for sports and youth continues to fuel his desire to impact the next generation of males of color. His aim is to train young males of color for long term success both on and off the field.
